Dear Father & Mother:-

Will write you a few lines to let you know that all is well
in old Camp Pike, and hope short letter find's all well in old Iowa.
Just at present it is raining, and raining pretty hard, but what do we care, we'r in the army now and nothing to worry us in the least.

Had the tooth ach all night and not much better this morning but I guess I will pull through all right, unles it gets much worse, thought of haveing it pulled, but do not like the thought of haveing one of those Officers working in my mouth.

By the way If you will send me a Telegram stateing that you need my assistance at home I have one chance of geting out, all so have Dr O. P. Jamison send me one stateing that if I came back at once he will give me my old job back and that he needs me bad, make them look like I was badly needed at home, And I think that through that means I will be able to get out, otherwise I will have to stay here till about March, and God knows that I do not want too stay here that long.

Also write a letter to the General Commanding, Camp Pike, Arkansas, in your letter state that I have two brothers in France and that I am badly needed at home, and that I have been in the service for the last fiften months and that you would consider it a great favor if he would grant me a discharge, and in short words make it look like I was badly needed at home, that is the main thing.

Just put in for a furlought for Xmas do not know yet that I will get it but there is nothing like trying, of course if i get it I will have only a few days at home but the way it is at the present time, I will not be able to get home befor the first of March and probly not then, but one thing sure I am going to try good and hard.

You know the main thing is a good letter to the General commanding Camp Pike Arkansas. and I guess you can give that to him can you not? if not write me and I will write and tell you what to tell him. I expect the main thing would be a telegram stating that I was badley needed to help support the Family.

you see stat way he would send down word for my immedate discharge and they have to go by his orders.

I have made up my mind not to bring back and overcoat with me but I can bring some good shoes with me, of which I think I will, they are selling them at the Q.M.C. at the present time at 10% below cost not so bad for good shoes, is it? well as this is about all I have to say I will close for this time

With lots of love to all

Your good for nothing son Charles W Delk
